At the Wellwood Centre we practice acupuncture as a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which is a tried and tested system that has been used for thousands of years in the Far East. Acupuncture is presently used in hospitals in China alongside traditional western medicine, where it is seen that both play a part and can complement each other.
Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance and the aim is to restore the body’s equilibrium. Emotional, mental and physical aspects are all seen as being connected and all are taken into account when designing a treatment plan. Subtle diagnostic techniques are used to focus on the individual as opposed to the disease. Traditional acupuncturists believe that pain and illness occur when the body’s qi or vital energy is blocked and cannot flow. Acupuncture works by inserting extremely fine disposable needles into specific points on the meridians, any blockages of qi are cleared and triggers the body to achieve full health and equilibrium.
